It’s been a week of ups and downs… That’s a lie, it’s been a week mostly of downs. So, even though it’s out of chronological order, my first pic will be the flowers at the cafe this morning.

This week I wrote about:

And on to the week in pics…

Today I’m taking part in Surprise Beginning’s Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking Monday. Because sometimes it’s fun to be a bit vain (and by sometimes, I mean all the time).

So this outfit was inspired by my friend Vanessa who wore something similar to church the other day and I realised I had all the appropriate bits to pull together my own version of the shift dress/blazer/leggings look. I was pretty happy with the results, except for my nasty hair, which is getting fixed on Wednesday!

This week has been my first week in my new role. Lots of learning, although some of it I already know which is good. I decided this week would be the week for everything to go well, so I started it with spring cleaning on Sunday. Fairly unusual for me, I will admit, but the results have made me so happy coming home! But I’ll get to that later… on to the week in pics!

I have been firmly in the leggings-are-not-pants camp for years now. For many reasons, mostly just because if I can see your lady business I don’t really feel you have selected an adequate amount of clothing. And, a little bit, because not everyone looks good in leggings. Especially not if said leggings are baggy, too tight, or a little bit see-through.

I’ve read many arguments regarding leggings as pants, including this one by Fat Heffalump calling it ableist , classist, sizeist, bullshit. I can’t imagine I would criticise someone in any of those situations, personally, but I take the point all the same and it did make me think about things in a different way (although I would like to state for the record that wearing leggings with a tunic top, in my opinion, is not wearing leggings as pants, and I would therefore disagree that the picture within this post depicts someone wearing leggings as pants). I’ll admit it – I’ve neglected you, my little blog. I’m sorry. I really am! I’ve just been so flat out with work, home and my other website, KiKi & Tea, that I’ve forgotten about you a little bit. Can we still be friends?

Lately I am loving reading blogs about other people’s lives. I love reading about opinions, and have spent many a moment reading articles about real issues, but sometimes it’s nice to switch off and admire someone else’s life for a moment. Particularly people who have really pretty, stylish, lives. With their super organised kids, their fun activities and their clean homes. At the moment I’m particularly in love with this brand new blog by my (online – although I hate making that distinction because online is just as real) friend Karen who recently lost 22kg (I know! Amazing, right?) and who has such a beautiful, happy, organised life.

One of my other favourites is Thrify Decor Chick which makes me believe I, too, could be a fantastically talented thrifty decor chick and build window seats and crap if only I applied myself… but instead I will lie on the couch with my arm trapped by a cat who is overexcited about receiving attention (even if that attention is just me moving her slightly so I can still reach my keyboard) and feel guilty that I’m not applying myself in a more meaningful way to filling my house will all the organisational tools created by Kikki.K and planning out every single detail of my day.

I have to admit, I love these blogs for the ideas they give me, but it’s more than that. I love them because it’s like looking at life porn. Continue reading »

This Thursday, I love… heaters

Love is the wrong word. I think addicted would be a far more accurate description of my relationship with heaters. I just can’t get warm enough. No matter what I do or wear, I am never warm enough.

I can’t tell you the number of times someone has walked into a room/office where I am and said “it’s so hot in here!” I now have a paranoia about it and turn off heaters as soon as someone approaches, to avoid the accusing “Do you have the heater on? It’s boiling!” Continue reading »

Today’s Tip: Start your day with a slice of lemon in warm water.

A great way to start your day is to drink a glass (mug) of warm water with a slice of lemon/squeeze of lemon juice in it. It’s also a bit of a cure-all during the day. Personally I find that it’s only in winter I crave this, and I make it by pouring boiling water onto the lemon then letting it cool down before I drink it. It’s a bit delicious but it also helps me feel clearer and it doesn’t bog you down like coffee can sometimes.

I find during the day I just don’t want multiple cups of tea, and this is a good alternative to warm you up and provide the comfort of tea.  Continue reading »

Today’s Tip: Stretch

I am about as flexible as a rubber band… that has lost all it’s elasticity and gone that funny white colour so it crumbles a bit when you try to use it. So while I know I should stretch every day, I don’t. It hurts. I can’t possibly reach my toes! They are far too far away.

The one thing I can confidently say I do do, and you should do, is stretch during the work day. I find it resets my sitting posture, makes me feel better about being there, alleviates stress (or boredom if you have been staring at a spreadsheet too long) and is great for your body, your mind, and your eyes.

My favourites are: Continue reading »

This Thursday, I love… Bonds Roll Top Underpants.

It’s my personal belief that practical underwear is so boring it should be free, so I try to avoid buying it for as long as is humanly possible. While french knickers and lacy bits and g-strings all look just lovely when you’re flouncing around your bedroom, when you’re half way through a work day and you get called into a meeting only to stand up discover your french knickers have moved themselves from being perfectly positioned french knickers to being some kind of knicker-thong adaptation and have firmly wedged themselves up in your lady business, well, right about then practicality outdoes looks in the underwear stakes.

However I refuse to submit and end up wearing granny panties, despite the fact that if you wear hipster underwear with your hipster jeans it’s a combo likely to end up with you hoiking those pants up all day long, lest they migrate towards your ankles and you end up looking like you have the world’s saggiest ass. Today’s Tip: Moisturise!!

Lately the weather has been gross, rain, cold, blazing sun, hot, it’s unpredictable and we just can’t win.

There is one guaranteed prediction for all these changes in the weather, though, and that is that your skin will get dry! Your lips are going to chap, your legs will get scaly and your finger beds will be disgraceful.

“So how do we prevent this, oh wise T” you ask? Easy! Moisturise!! Every time you think of it, get some lip balm on those lips, get some hand cream on those hands and some moisturiser on those arms and legs. My current obsessions are Jurlique Love Balm for lips, cuticles and elbows and Jurlique Rose Hand Cream (both courtesy of Linzi! Thanks!) for those dry hands. I have a wonderful spray on moisturiser by Nutrimetics that I like to use on my legs. For my face, it’s Steam Cream (I’m obsessed). Continue reading »
